Tornado Brain Review

Hello my fellow gangsters. For this cycle’s blog, I want to introduce you to one of my favorite books,
Tornado Brain by Cat Patrick (some spoilers included). The first time I saw this book was in 7th grade when my friend was reading the book in class, and she said she really liked the book. I kept it in mind, but didn’t read it until August of this year.

This is a great mystery book. It is 320 pages long but not a difficult read. If you love mystery books and have the time to not be able to put the book down, I highly suggest this book. I am very sad I waited to read this book, but I am a professional procrastinator. This book was so good I stayed up past my bed time to finish it (Don’t snitch on me).

The book starts with the main character, Frankie, in kindergarten when a tornado strikes her school. All the students are brought inside and are told to get underneath the tables. While under there, Frankie finds another girl to hold hands with, Colette. They make a promise to be best friends if they survive, and unsurprisingly, they do. Since I don’t want to spoil everything, I will leave my summary at that. I hope that you give this book a chance and read the rest of the story by yourself.

The part of this book that makes it really stand out to me is the backstories. I could tell the author put a lot of time into developing the backstories. Cat Patrick did a great job putting them into the main plot. The whole entire mystery is based on the history of the characters’ friendship, and it’s very interesting and unique. Once again I can see connections between the characters in this book and If I Ever Get Out Of Here, as both books have characters who struggle through friendships and don’t end so great.

Overall, this book is great. I got sucked into this book and would read it for hours at a time. The book is an easy read, and won’t take long. The diversity of the plot and characters put this book on top. Rating it on a scale of 1 to 10, I would give it an 8.5, just because I got really into it and was power-reading it, which made the book be over a little too fast. I feel like if it was made at a little bit of a higher reading level this book would be perfect.

Toodles,

  1. It's been a while since I read a mystery book, I'll put this in the back of my mind. It doesn't sound quite like a mystery from the description, but maybe the mystery is what the mystery is.

  2. That seems like an extremely fun read! I'll have to try it out sometime, but what *is* th mystery part? A tornado strikes the school and they swear to be best friends. Just out of curiosity, and I'll be sure to read it when I finish the long queue of books ahead of me :)
