Kanye West - The best black Nazi who takes nitrous gas
Kanye West, the popular music artist, and Nazi, is one of my favorite artists, and since blogs are about analysis, I am going to analyze some of his songs because he is the best artist in my opinion and as everyone knows, my opinion is always right.
I Wonder, in the graduation album, is all about following your dreams, repeating the phrase, “And I wonder if you know what it means to find your dreams.” The song has a medium-paced beat, with a pretty positive tone. He “wonders if you know” how to find your dreams, and goes into about as much detail as a Hip-Hop/Rap song can. He mentions how his dreams keep him up at night, showing he didn’t give up and it’s what’s always on his mind, even when it’s bedtime for Ye. He talks about “the grind” you have to do to follow your dreams, with waking up early and fighting through the issues along the way. To wrap up the song, he talks about a woman giving up her dreams, trading “It all for a husband and some kids,” showing that the girl isn’t following her dreams and is just going for an ordinary life.
Kanye West’s 2nd most popular song on Spotify, Flashing Lights, talks about another girl living a rich life. Kanye sings about all the fancy things the girl needs, such as new floors and getting on the news with the paparazzi chasing after Her riches went from showing off to taking it to trying to be famous or popular, and Kanye doesn’t like how far it has gone, even talking about her being most likely to start an argument or fight, which goes with her trying to get attention from people. He talks about how he would rather just have a relaxed easy life, saying, “I’m more into the trips to Florida.”
The last song that I have listened to and has any sort of academic analysis to it is Good Morning. This song is about working your way to graduating, with the first part of the song questioning if they even saw the test they took, because their grades are so terrible. The narrator of the song talks about their dreams, like in I Wonder, and says that cheating on tests and not focusing on school is not going to get them anywhere with those dreams. In the song is says, “Some people graduate, but be still stupid,” which I think is important because you can get straight A’s and graduate, but there are still 2 problems. First, you have to keep the knowledge AND do something with it instead of wasting your talent. Second, people can know all math and history and all that, but then not know what to do if your car breaks down, or how to start a fire without a lighter. This refers to life skills that people need in their lives, and after graduation, they don’t have as much guidance from others and they need to be able to deal with these problems on their own. This could also just be referring to how people can graduate from just cheating off of others, but that’s not as intellectual.
I hope that these analysis have taught you something, whether is was to follow your dreams, don’t cheat in school, or don’t be a fame-hungry spoiled brat. I know these songs don’t have much to analyze, but I really wanted to write about Kanye because he is my favorite artist. I recommend listening to Kanye West but don’t analyze the songs just listen.
- Gavin
This is Gavin, right? Thanks for posting, I definitely think that the character of the artist doesn't invalidate the art.
ReplyDeleteI really want to know what grade you got on this...interesting take on Kanye's songs and overall character! Hope you don't get expelled 🙏🙏
ReplyDeleteI got full credit so take that
DeleteI see that you mention that there isn't actually much to analyze but just by reading your blog I think there is much more than just flat, unemotional lyrics. Most art forms use some sort of emotion to convey and I don't believe this is an exception. I am more interested in people analyzing their favorite artist's music since there is usually more than what meets the eye.
ReplyDeleteWild Title!
ReplyDeleteHey Gavin, I wanted to leave a comment on this interesting post, specially because of the title. I am not a big fan of him, but we can't call his songs unemotional.
ReplyDeleteI love Kanye as much as the next guy if the next guy is Tom or you. His music that is. I do NOT support what he said recently however I like the insight you gave on his music. Musical analyses are some of my favorite videos to watch on you tube and blogs to read and seeing one about my favorite artist was fun to read. Next you should analyze Violent Crimes. S tier Song
