Bark, Meow? Nah, Bear.

Good Evening Bloggers,

This blog cycle I wanted to write about this classic for me, The Seekers series by Erin Hunter, who made the Warriors books with those cats, and Survivors with dogs. Seekers, on the other hand, is about bears, who have to survive through the newer world with some magical twists to it. The series has 6 books and I think there are some extra books with side plots that I haven’t read, but I read the first 3 in 5th grade and rediscovered the last 3 at my town’s library over Winter Break.

I liked this series for multiple reasons, first, I read the Survivors series and this has the same ideas so it fits with my liking. Second, I like how it mixed entertainment and genuine real-world problems. For instance, lots of the bears’ issues while on their journey were caused by human activities, constantly getting chased and hurt by humans for no reason, whether it was with guns or vehicles. However, the main one that made the book interesting and engaging was the global warming problem. In their journeys, the ice melting too early was a big problem as it made them leave the ice way faster than normal, making their journeys cut short or become far more dangerous. This felt connected to our world today with recent global warming issues (and Kenney Gym).

` Another reason I liked this series is as in my blog on Pax, this book also switched the point of view every chapter between the bears, who all had their personalities and view of what was going on, which made the plot more dramatic and made it harder to put down the book. Even when the bears were split apart, Erin Hunter did a great job of making every bear’s story not repeat the same time lapse repeatedly for each bear, making the plot advance at a good pace for the reader.

Overall, I highly recommend this group of bears. The books are long, but in my opinion, they are worth the read. Honestly, I recommend any of Erin Hunter’s series, she is a great author that I’m glad I returned to over the break.

Thank you,
Gavin M.

Also I don't know if Uni's library has the series, I just got it from my local library so let me know.

  1. Great post! I generally don't enjoy books with personified animals, instead I prefer realistic characters and relatable settings. However, finding a well-written story about such characters can be refreshing if done correctly. Thanks!

    1. The Warriors I believe is a really long series, so I would recommend The Seekers or Survivors, more leaning towards Seekers.

  6. I don't see too many books talking about how human activities can harm the animal world. I find it quite interesting that a book would cover something like that. I also like how the author has bears as the main character and that their stories never overlap.
