Hamine No Hippo: A life lesson to learn
Hey guys, lately I have begin watching and reading the Hamine No Hippo series by Jyoji Morikawa. Personally I like this series because of its plot, but also because of it valuable life lesson.
Ippo Makunouchi is initially portrayed as a timid and bullied high school student who needs a direction in life, spending most of his time assisting his mother with their family fishing business. His life suddenly changes when he encounters Mamoru Takamura, a talented and well known boxer, who saves him from his childhood bullies that were beating him up under a bridge. Inspired by Takamura and a desire to wanting to be better, Ippo begins his journey into the world of boxing by joining the Kamogawa Boxing Gym, which he will then become an important part of.
Under the wing of Coach Genji Kamogawa, Ippo starts from the very basics, enduring rigorous training and showing a surprising natural strength for the sport. He learns the fundamentals of boxing, developing his physical strength, and learns his signature peek-a-boo style, based on a strong defense and devastating punching power. As Ippo progresses, he participates in many matches, slowly climbing the ranks and earning recognition for his power and determination. Ippo starts boxing in the 1990s, or 1998 in the manga's timeline. The anime is divided into story arcs, the first season covers three sagas from the manga: Rookie King, Class A Contender, and National Champion Road.
But, what I personally like about the series is its unique life lesson. No matter how many times you get thrown to the ground, you always have to get back up and keep fighting. No matter how many times Ippo gets punched to the ground, he always gets back up in his feet, ready to fight whatever opponent he is facing. And I think that life is like that, that no matter how many times you get thrown to the ground, you have to get back up and face it face on, because if you don't get up, you will lose the fight against life.
Hopefully you guys enjoy the blog, and thank you for reading it - Mati
Great blog post! I've never heard of this manga before, but it sounds interesting, and has a good life lesson. It sounds kind of like Karate Kid.

DeleteHi Mati! Great post, and I was kinda curious what sets it off from most other story arcs, especially Karate Kid. Because from the looks of it, it seems to just be like... dunno Boxing Kid. Just curious, and great post!
