"The political caste fears the freedom of the individuals, because freedom ends the privileges." - Javier Miley, El fin de la inflación( the end to inflation)

Javier Milei is an Argentine economist and politician with a staunch libertarian ideology, who rose to prominence advocating for radical economic reforms, most notably the elimination of Argentina's central bank and the dollarization of the economy, as solutions to the country's inflation; his outspoken and often controversial public persona, combined with his proposals, converted him from economic commentator to national deputy and ultimately, to the presidency of Argentina in 2023.

Before Milei took the presidency the country was in a pretty bad economic state, possessing one of the biggest inflation rates in the world. Since he has gotten into power that country has slowly gotten better little by little, making an awesome comeback. It is to add that part of this comeback is thanks to Donald trump as he uplifted the massive debt that Argentina had to the U.S.

Javier Milei's "El fin de la Inflación" presents a controversial, yet meticulously argued, economic thesis: the solution to Argentina's persistent inflationary crisis lies in the abolition of the central bank and the implementation of a system of free currency competition. Milei posits that the central bank, rather than acting as a stabilizing force, is the primary driver of inflation through its monetary policy.

The core of his argument centers on the belief that unrestricted currency competition would naturally lead to the widespread adoption of the U.S. dollar, effectively dollarizing the Argentine economy (which is the plan). This transition, he contends, would eliminate the government's ability to manipulate the money supply, a practice he identifies as the fundamental cause of inflationary pressures. Milei acknowledges the radical nature of his proposal, emphasizing that it represents a necessary, albeit drastic, measure to dismantle entrenched economic structures and establish long-term financial stability. He frames this policy shift as a decisive break from conventional economic approaches, advocating for a fundamental restructuring of Argentina's monetary system.

Personally I started reading this book for the singular reason that I like Milei and what he is doing for my country.

Thanks for reading guys

  1. Interesting choice of doing a political/economic book for a blog post! Were Milei's economic plans inspired based on another country? I wonder how it'll do for Argentina long-term. Great post!

  2. Your post gives a clear and passionate overview of Milei's ideas and their impact. I found your explanation of his plan to abolish the central bank especially interesting. Whether people agree with him or not, it's good to see someone engaging seriously with economic reform.
